Brazilian heavyweight David Moura became World Championships silver medallist in 2017 in Budapest. He won the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg and became the world number one of the world. He won more than 25 World Cup medals. Moura won the Pan American Games in 2015 in Toronto. He won bronze at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2016. Moura won World Cup medals since 2010 in Paris, Abu Dhabi, Rio, Baku, Tokyo and Brasilia. He took a silver medal at the IJF Masters in 2017 and bronze in 2018.

Olympic heavyweight champion Teddy Riner made light work of former world silver medallist David Moura (BRA) in the last contest at the first edition of the Brasilia Grand Slam. Brazil and Canada seemed to be the two most dominant nations in this moment at the forthcoming Judo Pan American Championships held in Lima, Peru, this week. The Pan Americans are strong at level in both heavyweight categories but perhaps the most eye-catching division in for women U57kg. However Jessica Klimkait will be missing in Lima, so no Canadian clash, but perhaps Christa Deguchi and Rafaela Silva may battle as highest seeded players. Read more

Brazilians study the younger generation

This week the Grand Slam in Brasilia was made official after months of negotiations, an huge opportunity for the Brazilian athletes to register with four athletes in a Grand Slam where 1000 points are at stake for the winner. The Brazilian team is still leaning on a lot of experience but a new generation is knocking on the door for quite some time. Some of the older generation athletes are in Antalya for the Grand Prix. Tamerlan Bashaev of Russia struck Grand Slam gold for the first time in his career by defeating Olympic bronze medallist Or Sasson (ISR) in the closing seconds of their +100kg final.
