Denis Vieru takes bronze at Europeans while suspected for doping use in 2019

According to French website Lesprit du Judo, Denis Vieru is suspected of the use doping in 2019. Denis Vieru of Moldova captured the gold medal at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2019. Vieru captured bronze at the 2019 World Championships. Vieru lost the points he earned during the summer of 2019, including his world bronze medal in Tokyo in August and his final at the Croatian Grand Prix in July. Shirine Boukli remains hopeful on Olympic dream

Shirine Boukli eventually wasn’t even selected for the French team for the European Championships in Prague. Posvite had to witdraw from the Championships and Boukli was added to the team. Not a bad alternative as Boukli captured the gold medal and continued her success at senior level after she won the Düsseldorf Grand Slam in February. She gave Bilodid her toughest fight of the year in Paris and in Prague she defeated Andrea Stojadinov in the European final. Oon Yeoh of JudoCrazy interviewed Europe’s best U48kg. Read more

Israel, France and Russia celebrate gold medals

The French women remain the strongest in Europe. With five gold medals at the European Championships in Prague the French dominated the tournament. On Saturday Madeleine Malonga and Romane Dicko captured the European title. For men it was Russia that met the expectations with two extra gold medals on the closing day in Prague. Mikhail Igolnikov and heavyweight Tamerlan Bashaev claimed the gold and with two silver medals, Russia was truly strong. Only Israels Peter Paltchik could escape the Russian takeover. Read more

Victor Sterpu writes history for Moldova on golden day

At the second day of the European Championships Victor Sterpu captured the first European title for his country Moldova in history after his victory against Lasha Shavdatuashvili. In the men’s division U81kg Tato Grigalashvili won the title after he overcame Ivaylo Ivanov in the final. the French women did what was expected, two gold medals. Both Clarisse Agbegnenou and Margaux Pinot retained their title of last year in Minsk. In Prague France is now leading the medal table. Read more

Agbegnenou on course for fifth European title

Reaching the top in sports is easier than staying on top. Clarisse Agbegnenou is the absolute top in women’s judo. At the European Championships she is no doubt the big favourite to win her fifth European medal and third in a row.
