The greatest show on earth starts at 23 July 2021
As the biggest prize in Judo recedes into 2021, the great and the good, are still jockeying for selection. Some of the greatest players in the world won’t be there. At 60, 66 and 73kg Japan have multiple entries who would be favourite to take Gold were they selected. Imagine the heartache, to plausibly consider yourself the best in the world, and you don’t even get a ticket. Consider then, the lot of the lower ranks and the toil of competing on the IJF circuit. Judo in the time of Covid-19: Peter Paltchik
Peter Paltchik, winner of six IJF World Tour events, is locked down in Israel but he is making good use of his time, doing daily exercises at home and offering online advice and inspiration to young judokas across his country through the power of the internet. Starting date of Judo Olympic tournament at 24 July 2021
July 2021 has emerged as the time frame for the start of the Tokyo Olympics, a source in the organizing committee said. The Judo tournament will start at 24 July 2021 starting the men’s U60kg and women’s U48kg events. The first edition of the team event will take place at 31 July. The opening ceremony will be at 23 July 2021. Read more
Photographer Paco Lozano awarded but affected by Covid-19
Not just judoka are stuck at home due to the virus. Also some of our familiar judo photographers is under lock-down. Paco Lozano is an award-winning judo photographer from Malaga, Spain. Confident Sanne van Dijke in heavy battle for Tokyo 2021
The Netherlands have a real luxury problem in the 70 kg weight class, because with Kim Polling and Sanne van Dijke you have two world-class judoka. They are on the second and third place in the Olympic ranking and have both beaten World Champion Marie Eve Gahie and Japan's top athlete Arai Chizuru. It is a close fight between the two Dutch top aces.
