Rustam Orujov of Azerbaijan won Olympic silver in Rio and became World Championships silver medallist in 2017 in Budapest. In 2016 he was European champion and bronze in 2017. Rustam and won the Grand Prix in Havana in 2016, Grand Prix in Baku (2012), Grand Slam Baku in 2013 and Grand Prix Tbilisi and Samsun, both in 2015. In 2015 he won silver in Paris, Düsseldorf and Abu Dhabi in 2016. Orujov was born in Ust-Ilimsk in Russia. He took the gold medal at the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2017.

Olympic champion Ono Shohei of Japan was back to his brilliant best as he won all six contests in Germany to return to the medal podium for the first time since Rio 2016.
