Belgian Charline van Snick is Olympic Games bronze medallist in 2012, 2013 World bronze medallist and 2015 European Games winner after two lost European finals. In 2015 she won the Grand Prix in Dusseldorf and took silver at the Grand Slam of Paris. She won a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017 U52kg. Van Snick won the Grand Slam of Abu Dhabi in 2017 and she took various other medals in the IJF Tour. She won the Grand Prix in The Hague in 2018 and bronze at the 2018 World Masters

Tsunoda Natsumi of Japan defeated world bronze medallist Amandine Buchard (FRA) to win the -52kg title in China. Osaka Grand Slam silver medallist Tsunoda, who in the domestic pecking order is behind world champion Abe Uta and world silver medallist Shishime Ai (JPN), turned Buchard over and onto her back with a sumi-gaeshi. Belgian Charline Van Snick won her eighth Grand Prix gold medal with a clinical performance against former Zagreb Grand Prix winner Eleudis Valentim (BRA). The Belgian pounced on an opportunity to employ her well-drilled shime-waza and defeated Valentim by submission from a koshi-jime strangle. Read more

The draw at the Grand Prix of The Hague delivered some fine first round matches. With two world champions in the field and 412 participants coming from 62 nations the second edition of the Grand Prix in Holland almost doubled its participants field compared to last year. 242 Men and 170 Women will battle for the medals and valuable points for the qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Uta Abe makes miracles come true with World title

Uta Abe has become the new World Champion. Like yesterday another rookie judoka taking the World title. Just 18 she is and she defeated, like on the opening day, the current World Champion. Uta Abe defeated Ai Shishime in an all Japan final in the golden score. Abe is the third youngest ever World Champion after Daria Bilodid and Ryoko Tani. Read more
