Sanne Verhagen won the World Championships bronze in 2014 U57kg. At young age she won the silver medal at World Junior Championships. Won the European Cadet title in 2008 and silver U20 and U23yrs. European team champion in 2013. She won her 1st World Cup in 2014 in Madrid. Hamstring injury in 2015. She captured a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2019.

Fifth Grand Prix success for Kosovo’s Nora Gjakova

Nora Gjakova of Kosovo celebrated for fifth Grand Prix gold medal with a win against Olympic champion Rafaela Silva (BRA) in the U57kg final. Silva was guilty of a bear hug in golden score and received her third shido and was disqualified. The result meant a first medal for Kosovo while Brazil earned their third after a strong start in Tbilisi. Read more

Sanne van Dijke, Sanne Vermeer, Sanne Verhagen - it's easy to understand how one could easily find themselves confused this weekend. It’s Sanne time at the Grand Prix in The Hague. Record participation for Dutch Olympic judo team

The Dutch team will send a record of eleven athletes to the Olympic Games. In 2012 the Dutch sent 10 athletes to London. Henk Grol is the only athlete with medals in his pocket. The double European champion in this Olympic cycle won bronze in 2008 and 2012. Marhinde Verkerk was previously nominated instead of Guusje Steenhuis. Verkerk finished fifth in 2012. Read more

France at full strength with Teddy Riner at Grand Prix Samsun

398 athletes from 68 nations kick-off for the Grand Prix in Samsun on Friday. Of course a big team from Turkey with 52 athletes will compete and the eyecatchers are the women fighting at Day 1 U48kg where Dilara Lokmanhekim and Ebru Sahin will fight for the top positions. Both are potential Olympic participants for Turkey, but only one can go. They are ranked closely, Lokmanheim at 13, Sahin at 14 in the latest Olympic Ranking. Lokmanhekim and Sahin are separated in two pools, but they can meet in the semi final. Read more

Dutch Judo Team for Rio announced

The Dutch Judo Association announced the eleven judoka nominated for the Olympic Games. Despite the ongoing qualification period, the board will nominate eleven athletes at the National Olympic Committee. Obviously all athletes need to fit the international criteria at 30 May to secure their position. Read more
