Kyoto-born An Chang Rim, competing for South Korea, finished second in the men’s 73-kilogram division at Grand Slam Tokyo in December, and the 21 year-old’s goal is now to knock off Japan at this summer’s Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Teenager Asahina Sarah of Japan produced a sublime display as she won all five of her contests by ippon including the final against European Games bronze medallist Belkis Zehra Kaya (TUR). Former Junior world champion Asahina, who’s is world number 37 with her 19 years was supported by her parents in the crowd, was a breath of fresh air in the division with her ippon judo flowing all day long. Cho Gu-Ham prolongs title in Jeju

Reigning Tokyo Grand Slam winner Cho Gu-ham of Korea recorded his second Grand Prix win in his homeland as he defeated Pan American Games bronze medallist Jose Armenteros (CUB) in the U100kg final in Jeju. Cho, 23, who is a hugely popular member of the South Korean team, stormed past the 22-year-old Cuban by ippon after 60 seconds with a reverse-seoi-nage.
