Super year for Aleksandar Kukolj, champion and father since Friday

Aleksandar Kukolj gave himself a break for a very good reason. The European Champion of Warsaw in April became father on Friday and while his wife is still in hospital Kukolj is in the sports venue for the European Open in Belgrade to promote the event, hand out signature, talk about judo and support his friends. Maryna Slutskaya first female European Champion for Belarus

There was yet another miracle on Saturday at the European Championships in Warsaw. Maryna Slutskaya became the first woman ever to win the European title for her country, Belarus. The heavyweight, coached by Leonid Svyrid, claimed the European title after she defeated Svitlana Iaromka of the Ukraine in the final. Read more

Elkhan Mammadov (35) second oldest man to capture the European title

Elkhan Mammadov is back on top. The 35-year old Azeri judoka won the European title in Warsaw; it was a surprise victory, but well deserved. With impressive, energetic judo, he captured the gold medal over top competitors, such as World number one Elmar Gasimov and Michael Korrel. Read more
