French judoka Audrey Tcheumeo won the European title in Warsaw against against Dutch World number one Guusje Steenhuis. This is her fourth European title. In the dream final, Steenhuis struck first with a ko-soto/o-uchi combination, driving Tcheumeo nearly to the edge of the mat, scoring a waza-ari. Tcheumeo, however, fought back and scored with just over a half-minute remaining in the contest and finished Steenhuis 20 seconds with a strong counter for ippon.

Tcheumeo had a tough match to start the day in Anna-Maria Wagner of Germany; Tcheumeo needed a good two minutes to defeat the 20-year youngster. Tcheumeo is in fact just 26 years old and already she has won two Olympic medals, the world title in 2011, and now her fourth European title.

Karen Stevenson, the second Dutch in the final block didn’t manage to stop Tcheumeo either. Abigél Joó of Hungary stood the full minutes with Tcheumeo, and continued on to win bronze in her trademark style. A nice gift just before she is going to marry.

Natalie Powell won a satisfying bronze medal for Great Britain. The Welsh defeated Karen Stevenson for bronze. Last year she also won bronze in Kazan.
