Sofia winners Ramadan Darwish (EGY) and Dzmitry Shershan (BLR) have both improved their positions in the latest IJF World Ranking. Both Darwish as Shershan are now ranked seventh. For Darwish one position better, Shershan was tenth last week and his best ever position was fourth in August 2015. Read more


Strong Olympic candidates show off in Sofia

A few serious candidates two qualify for the Olympic Games won the European Open in Sofia today. Egyptian judoka Ramadan Darwish is in the top 8 U100kg. Last year he lost the final against Michael Korrel, but today he defeated the Dutchman in the semi final and was able to take the gold medal. In the final Darwish overcame former World Champion Luciano Correa who seems almost sure about Olympic participation in his country after today’s silver confirmation. Read more

Two Slovenian women were strong today at the Second day of the European Open in Sofia. Both Anka Pogacnik (U70kg) and Klara Apotekar (U78) won the gold in their divisions. The third gold medal was for German Carolin Weiss who regained her title of 2014. Read more
