Among the qualified athletes via the Continental Unions, Denmark celebrates its first female Olympian ever. The International Judo Federation announced that Lærke Marie Olsen has qualified for the Games in Tokyo fighting U63kg. Olsen is also the first Danish judo fighter since 1988, who gets the honor of representing the Danish colors at this Olympic Games where she again fight with the best athletes of the world U63kg.

Judo Denmark has had participants at the Olympics in 1984 (Carsten Jensen) and 1988 (Tommy Mortensen), so Lærke has joined a small company of big, Danish judo stars.

National coach, Peter Scharinger, was able to deliver one athlete, although he was aiming to launch an amazing number of three talents to the Games. Emilie Sook who fights U70kg and Mathias Madsen who both delivered historic results short came short to qualify in their competitive categories. Olsen took a bronze medal at the European Open in Prague in 2019. She was fifth at the Grand Prix in Hohhot (CHN) in 2019 and she was seventh at this year’s Grand Slam in Antalya.
