Rio will organize the World Championships of 2007. Rio unsurprisingly rose unchallenged to win the right to host the IJF global tournament. And in a gracious endorsement of the Brasilian bid, Mr Young Sung Park, IJF president, described it as the best bid he had ever heard.

Two years ago, Rio surprisingly lost out on the election to host the 2005 world championship but the delegation headed by Brasilian president Paulo Wanderley showed gritty determination to amended their bid and come back and win this time. The Netherlands, which was set to stand against Rio, withdrew in recognition that its bid could not match that of the South Americans.
