Georgian judoka Beka Gviniashvili is 2013 and 2015 World Junior Champion and is the most successful junior athlete ever also with the Georgian Junior team. In 2016 he switched from U90kg to U100kg with successful event and amazing victories including the Grand Slam in Baku, the guarantee for Rio. In 2017 he won the Grand Prix Düsseldorf 2017. He took bronze at the European Championships in Warsaw in 2017 U90kg. He took gold at the Masters in St. Petersburg in 2017. he won three national titles.

It has been a difficult year for Georgian judo so far in 2018, however in the category U90kg the federation now have a luxury problem. For the World Championships two athletes will be sent to Baku. Given the bronze medal at the World Championships Ushangi Margiani secured his spot in the team. Ushangi confirmed his form with bronze in Tokyo and silver at the Grand Prix in Budapest. Read more
