Chinese heavyweight Sisi Ma won her first World Cup in Madrid in 2014. She continued at Grand Prix level winning in Havana in 2014 and Samsun in 2015. 2014 Asian Games winner. Ma won gold at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in 2015 and silver at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2016 and silver in Budapest and Qingdao in 2016.

World champion Yu Song of China won the domestic bragging rights as she defeated World Judo Masters silver medallist Ma Sisi in the last women’s contest in Qingdao. Grand Prix Qingdao moves to northern city of Hohhot in 2017

The Grand Prix of Qingdao is set to start for the last time in the harbor city. The Qingdao Grand Prix was first held in 2009 and is one of the longest-running events on the IJF World Judo Tour. Qingdao’s top sports event has been an annual leg of the tour since then but this year marks a farewell as China’s judo showpiece will move next year to Hohhot, the Capital of Inner Mongolia in North China. The field starts with just 68 women but including the two top Chinese heavyweights Ma and Yu. Read more

German judoka Carolin Weiss took her career to new heights in Budapest as she won her first Grand Prix title with a classy performance in the Hungarian capital. World Judo Masters silver medallist Ma Sisi of China fell to two-time Grand Prix bronze medallist Weiss by a single shido as the German fighter won their first meeting between the two heavyweight forces having defeated reigning world champion Yu Song (CHN) in the semi-final. Germany strong at prelims day two at GP Budapest

German athletes qualified for three finals today at the Grand Prix in Budapest. Laura Vargas-Koch was able to reach the final after a victory against Sanne van Dijke (NED) U70kg, she will now face Rodriguez Elvismar of Venezuela who defeated Karen Nun-Ira of Japan in the semi. Both are qualified for the Olympic Games. Read more
