Avtandili Tchrikishvili is triple European Champion and European Games winner. Avtandil won the World title in 2014 and many European and World titles with Georgia. He won the Paris Grand Slam in 2014 and 2016. Avto followed his uncle as judoka and learned his skills in Georgian wrestling Chidaoba. He is flag bearer for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

National Championships close the year for Georgia

Khasan Khalmurzaev didn’t have to fight Tchrikishvili or Nagase, but did have a tough list of rivals to overcome, but took the gold medal when he needed it. Surprises in final phase Judo men U81kg

A surprising tournament for the men’s U81kg category, as expected as the competition is awesome with so many judo stars around. Still most of the usual suspects came up in the quarter finals. We lost some casualties in the prerounds such as Moustopoulos, Bottieau, Lee, De Wit, Pietri and Otgonbaatar and Penalber. Nonetheless Tchrikishvili and Nagase were still lined up for their road to the final with Khalmurzaev surviving keen in the slipstream. Read more
