The European Championships in Tel Aviv had a devastating result for the Georgian team with no medal at all, two fifth places and one seventh place. It was the first time ever since the history of the young country that Georgia didn’t win any medal in 25 years.

After the European Championships the coaching staff of the Georgian National Judo team resigned after the terrible results. However now the team gave a statement that “the team will not take part in any tournament and stop training until the president of the Judo Federation David Kevkhishvili will resign”, Varlam Liparteliani said.

“The Georgian judo team needs support from the federation, both with the provision of training conditions, and with the selection of the proper coaches, support in the international arena and other important directions.”

“Due to unacceptable and harmful situation, by the decision of the team we declare that we will not participate in any tournament and stop training until the president of the federation resigns from his post.”

He occupies three different positions, including he is the chairman of the Kvareli Sakrebulo. The fact is that he does not cope with his duties.

“Avtandil Tchrikishvili deliberately did not depart for Bosnia to participate in the tournament yesterday as he joins our desire to save the judo in Georgia” – Liparteliani said.

Today, several members of Georgian judo national team called on the president of the Federation to resign.
