Belgian judoka Joachim Bottieau won the Grand Prix in Dusseldorf in 2015 and 2016, first against Tchrikishvili, in 2016 against Maresch. Before these successes he won European bronze in 2012 and 2013 U81kg. He won World Cups in Sao Paolo and Bucharest. From a true judo family in Belgium.

No surprises in the Belgian Olympic team travelling with five judokas to Rio de Janeiro. The only surprise is that it consists of four men and one woman. Charline Van Snick however was the only one who won an Olympic medal over the last 12 years, she won bronze in London U48kg. Charline Van Snick, Jasper Lefevere, Dirk Van Tichelt, Joachim Bottieau and Toma Nikiforov form the final team which qualified for the Games which will start in 60 days from now. Read more

World Ranking #14 Travis Stevens had a great tournament in Guadalajara. Stevens was on fire and might even make it to a seeded position in Rio after he caught Joachim Bottieau in the final U81kg. Bottieau got three penalties rather quickly in the match and couldn’t bring up his usual technique which delivered him two gold medals at the Grand Prix in Düsseldorf last two years. Read more
