Russian judoka Niaz Bilalov won a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2015. He won bronze at the FISU Universiade in 2015 and European U23 bronze in 2015. Bilalov won silver at the Euro Open in Minsk. In 2016 he took silver at the Czech Open and bronze at the Grand Slam Tyumen in 2016. He won gold at the European Cup in Belgrade in 2016 and he won the European Cup in Celje in 2017. He took a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf in 2018.

Niiaz Bilalov of Russia won all four of his contests by ippon to win his first Grand Prix title. The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam winner from Russia defeated Ekaterinburg Grand Slam bronze medallist Laurin Boehler (AUT) after 44 seconds of golden score with a ko-uchi-gake which earned ippon. Read more

Russian talent Niiaz Bilalov made a winning start to his first foray into a Grand Slam final as he beat former world bronze medallist Toma Nikiforov (BEL) to win U100kg gold. Nikiforov, who will take on judo’s heavyweight titans in the Openweight World Championships blockbuster next month, fell behind to a waza-ari score from a drop seoi-nage but thought he had won the contest when he forced a submission on the ground. Georgia became the glorious winner of the second day of the European Championships for judoka U23 for men. The first two gold medals were for Georgia which doubled the two gold medals they captured in 2005 and 2009. Also gold for Russia and Ukraine.
