German judoka Theresa Stoll is the youngest of the German twins. Amelie reminds her sister often she’s older. Both have the same ideas, both are successful but they also both want to qualify for the Games and met quite a few times. Theresa is so far the most successful and she is the youngest German winner in Düsseldorf. She balances judo and her training with her study. It seems a healthy combination. The German Judo Federation confirms Grand Slam status of Düsseldorf

What was announced last year is now reality. After various negotiations, the German Judo Association (DJB) will host a Grand Slam in 2018. From 23 to 25 February 2018, Düsseldorf will host the first Grand Slam in Germany. Düsseldorf has the status of a Grand Prix since 2010. The World Tour started in 2009 with the Grand Prix in Hamburg. Before 2008 Hamburg was the city for the Super World Cups, what is now comparable to the Grand Slam. Read more

Gviniashvili defeats Khalmurzaev in super final U90kg

Two top level athletes were in the final of the Grand Prix: Beka Gviniashvili and Khusen Khalmurzaev. Almost a year ago both won the Grand Prix in Samsun in different weight categories; now, both competitors stepped onto the tatami at U90kg. Their last encounter was in 2012 at European Junior Championships when the Georgian won the contest. As it happened, the 2017 edition of their matchup left the judo fans as winner, as well. Belgian World bronze medallist Toma Nikiforov lost his opening contest in Paris a fortnight ago but bounced back like a true champion to register his second Grand Prix career victory on Sunday. The Belgian fighter, whose last international medal was silver at the European Championships almost a year ago, needed just 35 seconds to defeat two-time Grand Slam bronze medallist and Tokai University member Wolf Aaron (JPN) who had no choice but to tap out to the shime-waza.
