The German Judo Federation confirms Grand Slam status of Düsseldorf
What was announced last year is now reality. After various negotiations, the German Judo Association (DJB) will host a Grand Slam in 2018. From 23 to 25 February 2018, Düsseldorf will host the first Grand Slam in Germany. Düsseldorf has the status of a Grand Prix since 2010. The World Tour started in 2009 with the Grand Prix in Hamburg. Before 2008 Hamburg was the city for the Super World Cups, what is now comparable to the Grand Slam.
The upgrading of the Grand Prix Grand Prix event to date is a sign that high-quality work has been done in Düsseldorf for years. The German Judo Federation (DJB) and the International Judo Federation can now invite fans and spectators to the IS Dome in February. Düsseldorf is one of six venues of the Grand Slam series. The judo highlight in Germany next year will be mentioned in the same breath as Paris, Tokyo, Baku, Yekaterinburg and Abu Dhabi. Key issue for the IJF was the broadcasting of the Grand Slam by national TV. Both parties seems to have found a solution.
DJB President Peter Frese is fully satisfied after exciting weeks: "Upgrading the Grand Prix to a Grand Slam is a great thing and a chance for us, and in a way it's a recognition of our good work in recent years. We all work together to ensure that the first Grand Slam in Germany will be a complete success and that the ISS Dome in Dusseldorf will the ultimate venue for a sticky event. "
To accommodate such event, the DJB moves to a larger hall. Venue of the Grand Slam Düsseldorf will be the ISS Dome in Düsseldorf's Rath district. The multi-purpose hall offers better conditions for the athletes, great catering offers and of course plenty of space.
