German Championships held in Stuttgart

The German Individual Judo Championships, hosted by the Württemberg Judo Association, wrapped up in Stuttgart’s SCHARRena, where Germany’s top judoka competed despite the absence of the Olympic team, currently on a break. Held over two days, the competition saw a significant increase in participation compared to previous years, culminating in decisive matches across various weight categories.

In the women's finals, Sarah Ischt from VfL Wolfsburg captured the title in the up-to-48 kg class with an early hold, defeating 2020 champion Helena Grau. Nina Güth of JC 71 Düsseldorf claimed the up-to-52 kg title in a golden score win against Laura Hiller of JC Mönchengladbach. Anna-Monta Olek, junior world champion, won the up-to-78 kg final with an early hold over 2021 champion Julie Hölterhoff. In the over-78 kg category, Aylin Mill from VfL Sindelfingen outlasted Melina Wien of JC 66 Bottrop, securing her victory in extra time.
For the men’s matches, Nicolas Kutscher of JC 66 Bottrop achieved a wazaari victory in the up-to-60 kg category against four-time champion Maximilian Heyder. Nicolas Kunze of MTSV Aerzen took the up-to-66 kg title in a grueling golden score against Lino Andrea Dello Russo of SSF Bonn. In the up-to-100 kg category, Johannes Frey swiftly secured his third German championship by defeating Tim Schmidt within just 14 seconds. Daniel Udsilauri from TSV Erbach rounded out the day’s winners by claiming the over-100 kg title in a golden score match against Marvin Belz.
Bavaria led the medal table with an impressive haul, earning four golds, followed by Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Day 1 Highlights: Additional Champions
The championships kicked off with notable wins, including Jana Ziegler of UJKC Potsdam, who earned her third title in the up-to-57 kg category. In the up-to-63 kg class, Vivian Herrmann of Garbsener SC secured her third championship, and in the up-to-70 kg class, Samira Bock from TSV Großhadern emerged victorious after an intense extra-time battle against Giovanna Scoccimarro of MTV Vorsfelde.
For the men, Kevin Abeltshauser of TSV Abensberg claimed the up-to-73 kg title with two wazaari scores, while Schamil Dzavbatyrov from TSV Großhadern won his third championship in the up-to-81 kg category. An all-TSV Großhadern final in the up-to-90 kg category saw Fabian Kansy claim victory in golden score over Johann Lenz.
The German Judo Championships in Stuttgart showcased the top talent setting the stage for an exciting season ahead for German judo athletes.
