Youngsters rule at German Championships without elite

With Sunday’s four new German national champions, the total for this weekend is nine new gold medals, which is the consequence of the 18 top athletes who participate this weekend at the early and first Grand Prix in Havana. The German Championships in Hamburg delivered some catchy finals though.

One of the surprises was the title for young 20 year old Theresa Stoll who defeated Johanna Mueller, who lost her fourth final and third in a row. Since 2010 this category U57kg has seen six different champions: Brueck, Nisser, Müeller, Waechter, Schwille, Roper and Theresa Stoll. Sister Amelie Stoll lost the bronze against Anne-Sophie Schmidt, Jacqueline Lisson won the second bronze.

With 20 years David Tekic was the youngest man who won the title. In his own Hamburg he claimed the title in the final against Edouard Trippel who is the youngest medallist of the weekend. Trippel led by yuko quite from the beginning, but Tekic came back by waza-ari and secured his first title, now he’s won the Cadet, two Junior titles and senior title. The average age of the champions was 22 which says enough, Dino Pfeiffer was the only exception aged 27 on Saturday.

Vivian Herrmann was one of the few who prolonged last year’s title. U63kg she defeated Selina Dietzer. Miriam Butkereit was the surprise U70kg, although last year she won bronze in Bonn. In Hamburg she overcame Jenny Werner in the final.

In the men’s U73kg Anthony Zingg continues his way up and took the his second German senior title, as in 2013 he won the title U66kg. Zingg was able to defeat Julian Kolein who lost his third final in four years but won his fourth consecutive medal.

Dominic Ressel impressed in the recent team events with excellent international victories for Abensberg. On Sunday the man from TSV Kronshagen won the title with a dominant victory over Banjamin Münnich. After three bronze medals and silver last year it was about time for the title, and so he did.
