Kosei Inoue, who won the gold in the men's 100-kilogram class at the Sydney Olympics, said Tuesday that the chest injury he suffered earlier this month is more serious than initially thought and will force him out of judo action for about half a year.

Inoue revealed that he underwent surgery to repair a ruptured muscle in the right side of his chest last week after he sustained the injury at the Jan 9 Kano Cup international tournament. His coach Hidetoshi Nakanishi said at first he would be sidelined for about a month.
