Abdelrahman Mohamed defeated compatriot and defending champion Mohamed Abdelaal to earn the men's under-81 kilogram title at the African Judo Championships in Madagascar. Abdelaal had triumphed at last year's event in Cape Town but could only finish second this year, losing to Mohamed in Madagascar's capital city Antananarivo.

Home favourite Fetra Ratsimiziva and Achraf Moutii of Morocco completed the podium.

Amina Belkadi of Algeria was more successful in her title defence, triumphing in the women's under-63kg final against Sofia Belattar of Morocco.

In third was Enku Ekuta of Nigeria and Helene Wezeu Dombeu of Cameroon.

There was a new winner in the men's under-73kg, with Mohamed Mohyeldin of Egypt claiming gold and Ahmed El Meziati of Morocco clinching silver.

Completing the podium was Aden-Alexandre Houssein of Djibouti and Fethi Nourine of Algeria.

Morocco's Assmaa Niang beat Ayuk Otay Arrey Sophina of Cameroon in the women's under-70kg final.

Bronze medals went to Anastasiya-Alexandra Nenova of South Africa and Carine Ngarlemdana of Chad.
