Egypt wins medal table at African Judo Championships
Mbagnick Ndiaye of Senegal and Hatem Abd el Akher of Egypt successfully defended their titles at the African Judo Championships. Ndiaye was the victor in the men's +100 kilogram contest in Madagascar's capital city Antananarivo.
He overcame Mohamed Sofiane Belrekaa of Algeria in the final, with Ali Omar of Libya and Ahmed Wahid placing third.
Abd el Akher then retained his title in the men's U90kg.
Abderrahmane Benamadi of Algeria had to make do with silver, while Remi Feuillet of Mauritius and Egypt's Ali Hazem claimed bronze.
Ramadan Darwish of Egypt upgraded his silver medal from last year's competition after he triumphed in the men's U100kg with a victory against Koffi Kreme Kobena of Ivory Coast.
Luc Manongho of Gabon was the bronze medallist alongside Lwazi Mapitiza of South Africa.
Hortence Vanessa Mballa Atangana was another to improve on her second-place finish in 2019.
The Cameroon judoka defeated Algeria's Sonia Asselah in the women's +78kg final to clinch gold.
Home favourite Haingoniaina durianah Ramiandrisoa and Monica Sagna of Senegal were third.
In the women's U78kg, Marie Branser of Democratic Republic of the Congo was the victor.
Sarah-Myriam Mazouz of Gabon was the silver medallist, with Kaouthar Ouallal of Algeria the bronze medallist.
The African Judo Championships concludes with a team contest tomorrow.
