IJF extends Olympic qualification period

During an extraordinary meeting of the International Judo Federation about the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis, the Executive Committee took the following three unanimous decisions to guaranty the safety of the whole judo family as well as the fairness of the sport:

- The Olympic Qualification period will be extended until 30th June 2020

- The Continental Championships planned in period until 30th April 2020 will be postponed

- All Cadet and Junior events are also cancelled until 30th April 2020

Watch the cancelled judo events so far

So far a Grand Prix in Hohhot is also scheduled in June.

The European senior Championships in Prague are held from 1 May and not cancelled for now. All other Continental Championships are postponed.

Egyptian men dominate second day at African Judo Championships

Abdelrahman Mohamed defeated compatriot and defending champion Mohamed Abdelaal to earn the men's under-81 kilogram title at the African Judo Championships in Madagascar. Abdelaal had triumphed at last year's event in Cape Town but could only finish second this year, losing to Mohamed in Madagascar's capital city Antananarivo. Read more


African Championships kick off with 5 winning nations

South Africa’s lightweight Geronay Whitebooi retained her African Judo Championships title on the opening day of competition in Madagascar. Whitebooi was crowned as the continental champion last year in front of a home crowd in Cape Town. Five different nations took an African title. Only the U57kg had a new winner in Diassonema Mucungui of Angola. Read more
