Judoka from Japan Abe Uta became World Champion in 2018 at the same day as her brother Hifumi Abe. She was already Junior World Champion in 2017. She won the Grand Slam of Paris in 2018. Abe took gold at the Grand Slam in Tokyo in in 2017 and silver in 2016 as youngest medallist of the World Tour in 2016. She took gold in Osaka in 2018. In 2017 she won the Grand Prix Düsseldorf 2017 as youngest ever winner of a IJF World Tour event. She won the World Junior Mixed Team Championships in 2017.

World Champion Uta Abe cancels Grand Slam due to shoulder injury

Teenage world champion Uta Abe has withdrawn from the upcoming Ekaterinburg Grand Slam in Russia due to a left shoulder injury. The 18-year-old judoka, who holds the women's 52-kilogram world title, suffered the injury during practice on Feb. 19, and was diagnosed with a bruised left shoulder joint on Monday requiring up to three weeks of treatment.
