Kosovo judoka Akil Gjakova became European Champion in 2021 as first Kosovan man ever. Akil was flagbearer at the 2020 Olympic Games for Kosovo and finished seventh and fifth in Paris. Akil won the Grand Slam in Paris in 2018 and Grand Prix gold in Zagreb in 2018 and Budapest in 2019. Gjakova became European Cadet Champion U18 in 2013. He bagged World Tour medals in Tunis, AbuDhabi and The Hague. Akil took a silver medal at European U23 Championships in 2017 but won the title in Gyor in 2018. He bagged a silver medal at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in 2023 and bronze at GS Paris in 2024.
