Kosovo judoka Akil Gjakova won the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2018 and Grand Slam of Paris as first male athlete of Kosovo. Gjakova became European Cadet Champion U18 in 2013 in Tallinn. He won silver at the Grand Prix in Tunis in 2018. He took a silver medal at European U23 Championships in 2017 held in Podgorica. Akil became U23 European Champion in Gyor in 2018. He took a silver medal at the Grand Prix in The Hague in 2018.

Russian judoka Musa Mogushkov beat Abu Dhabi Grand Slam silver medallist Akil Gjakova of Kosovo for the first time to win his third Grand Prix title. Gjakova beat Mogushkov in the semi-finals at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam two weeks ago but the latter avenged that result in today’s U73kg final after three and a half minutes of golden score.
