Kazakh judoka Galbadrakh Otgontsetseg is originally from Mongolia who switched to Kazakhstan in 2015. She was Olympic bronze medallist in 2016 in Rio. She won world bronze in 2017 in Budapest and in 2018 in Baku. She won the Grand Slam of Abu Dhabi in 2016. She won the GP in Astana in 2014 U48kg and GP Jeju in 2015 for Kazachstan. In 2016 she won the Grand Slam of Paris. She took bronze in Paris in 2019 and silver in Antalya. She won the Grand Prix in Zagreb and won 32 World Cup medals.

Tonaki and Bilodid on course for world title U48kg

No major surprises so far in the preliminaries for the women’s division U48kg at the World Championships in Japan. The favourites progressed to the quarter finals and a final between Funa Tonaki and defending World Champion Daria Bilodid is still possible. Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh (KAZ) emerged triumphant at the Grand Prix Zagreb after a titanic battle with Tbilisi Grand Prix winner Melanie Clement (FRA) as the pair went toe-to-toe for over 10 minutes on the tatami. Olympic bronze medallist Galbadrakh and Clement, who both hold wins over world champion Daria Bilodid (UKR), both scored a waza-ari during regulation time to force golden score. Read more

Kosovo’s Distria Krasniqi defeated Olympic bronze medallist Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh of Kazakhstan by ippon to claim her sixth Grand Prix title. Paris Grand Slam silver medallist Krasniqi, whose coach Driton Toni Kuka is at home with another set of athletes for a training camp, won it alone with a convincing performance that culminated with a harai-goshi for ippon with six seconds left on the clock. Ami Kondo finally wins Grand Slam Paris

Japanese lightweight Kondo Ami won her sixth Grand Slam title and her first in Paris as she dispatched World Judo Masters winner Distria Krasniqi of Kosovo with a sumptuous ko-uchi-gari for ippon. Japan won the first final of the competition after Kondo showed her worth and took a major step towards selection for the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo. Read more
