Ukrainian judoka Bogdan Iadov captured silver at the Grand Prix in Tel Aviv in 2019. He won the European Open in 2017. He took bronze at the Grand Prix in Budapest in 2018. As cadet Iadov won a silver medal at the European Cadet Championships in Tallinn in 2013 and bronze at the World Cadet Championships in Miami. Iadov won silver at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in 2014. He took bronze at the Grand Slam in Baku. He was seventh at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo.

Victorious Denis Vieru steals the show in Baku

Paris Grand Slam winner Denis Vieru of Moldova won his second Grand Slam title of the season as he defeated Tashkent Grand Prix bronze medallist Nijat Shikhalizada (AZE). Vieru, 23, planted the veteran Azeri, 31, for ippon to propel himself even higher on the World Ranking List next week. Shikhalizada had to settle for silver while Moldova’s golden man won his third IJF event of the season from four outings. Read more

Junior World Championships gold medallist Manuel Lombardo from Italy stepped up to deliver the finest performance of his young career on the senior stage as he brushed aside Budapest Grand Prix bronze medallist Bogdan Iadov (UKR) in the -66kg final. In an unlikely final, which pitted two first-time finalists against each other, the Italian threw with a modified kata-guruma for a waza-ari score with 19 seconds left on the clock. Read more

Russia leads the medal table at European Open in Sofia

The Russian team has won two gold medals at the first day of the European Open in Sofia. The day started though with golf for Azerbaijan. Tofig Mammadov took gold U60kg in his final against Sakhavat Gadzhiev. Mammadov prevent the Russian from taking all gold medals. In a field of 23 man the 19-year old Azeri won his first World Cup.
