Yeldos Smetov of Kazakhstan became 2015 World Champion at home in Astana against Rustam Ibrayev. He took bronze at the 2019 Worlds in Tokyo. Smetov took the World Junior title in 2010 in Agadir. In 2016 he won silver at the Grand Prix Düsseldorf. Olympic silver medallist in 2016 in Rio. He won the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg in 2018. He took bronze at the 2018 World Masters in Guangzhou. He took silver at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2019 and won the Grand Prix in Antalya and Budapest 2019.

The 2015 world champion defeated the 2014 world champion in the U60kg final of the Grand Prix in Budapest as Yeldos Smetov (KAZ) beat Ganbat Boldbaatar (MGL). Smetov offered more with a higher workrate and pressed Ganbat who was second best throughout the final. Kazakhstan claimed their first gold when Smetov threw with a seoi-nage in the closing seconds for ippon. Read more
