Mongolian judoka Otgonbaatar Lkhagvasuren won his first Grand Prix in 2015 in Mongolia. In 2015 he won bronze at the Grand Slam of Paris and bronze at the GP Tbilisi. In Abu Dhabi the gold medal followed at the Grand Slam. In 2015 he won bronze at the GP Düsseldorf. He won the Grand Prix Ulaanbaatar in 2016. He finished fifth at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Zelym Kotsoiev of Azerbaijan won a rematch of 2017 Junior Worlds final to become a two-time Grand Prix winner. The confident 19-year-old saw off Junior Worlds runner-up Arman Adamian (RUS), 21, who was making his first start on the IJF World Judo Tour here in Antalya, while 19-year old Kotsoiev won the Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix in 2016. Mashu Baker defeats Varlam Liparteliani in U90kg final

Japanese Mashu Baker became the Olympic Champion, the 21-year old star was the most solid in a race for the gold where many favourites had to leave the Arena earlier than they hoped. Cheng Xunzhao was the surprise of the day winning the bronze medal after knocking out three European medal candidates in the preliminaries. In the semi final he lost to Baker, but came back in the match for bronze against Otgonbaatar Lkhagvasuren of Mongolia who finished fifth. Read more

Surprising choices in Mongolian Olympic judo team

The Mongolian team for the Olympic Games in Rio hosts some surprising choices. Mongolia had even four choices for the men U60kg including 2014 World Champion Boldbaatar Ganbat, but the technical staff have chosen for young daredevil Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir who fought the World Junior Championships final in 2014 and in 2015. Tsend-Ochir won a bronze medal at the World Cadet Championships in 2013. In 2015 he was in the final of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam and showed some great judo. Read more
