Kristina Rumyantseva was the Russian champion U48 in 2013. She won a European bronze medal in 2014 in Montpellier. At the age of 20 she won her first World Cup in Bucharest and added the victory at the Grand Prix of Almaty in 2013. Important was a silver medal at the Grand Slam in Tyumen in 2015.

Spain was the most successful country at the first day of the Pan American Open in Buenos Aires. The strong team of just 6 Spanish in action won four medals. Sugoi Uriarte seemed to secure his participation at the Olympic Games in Rio with gold U66kg. Jaione Equisoain also won gold for her nation defeating Yadinys Amaris of Colombia in the category U57kg. Hungarian Eva Csernoviczki defended her European title in the U48kg. In the final, 18-year-old French Amandine Buchard showed resistance and led the contest by by wazar-ari.
