Audrey Tcheumeo was in the final of the Olympic Games in 2016 against Harrison and she won Olympic bronze in 2012 in London. Tcheumeo became World Champion 2011 in Paris, took silver in 2014 and bronze in 2013. Tcheumeo won European and World team titles with France. Two European Junior Chs and European U23 title. She is European Champion in 2011, 2014, 2016 and 2017. Tcheumeo won the Grand Slams of Paris three times: 2011, 2015, 2017.

Asian Championships winner Hamada Shori won her first Grand Slam gold medal in a category where Japan have had mixed success and several judoka can lay claim to being their the hosts’ best option at U78kg. Hamada is the latest judoka to cast their name forward as the fighter to call on at this weight as the 27-year-old, who has been infrequently exposed to the IJF World Judo Tour, won all five of her contests by ippon including the final against world number two Guusje Steenhuis (NED). Foreign women facing trouble winning Grand Slam Tokyo

Only 14 foreign women have ever won the Grand Slam in Tokyo. All other titles were captured by the female home judoka. Kayla Harrison and Urska Zolnir won the Grand Slam twice. Most successful country in France having four women that won the Grand Slam: Decosse, Agbegenou, Emane and Tcheumeo. Last year only Urantsetseg Munkhbat (MGL) and Kathrin Unterwurzacher (AUT) were able to win the precious title. Read more
