Building on her performance at the 2019 World Masters, during which she won gold, Dutch Tessie Savelkouls entered the final against the 2018 European Champion, long injured, but back at the highest level, Romane Dicko (FRA). Tessie Savelkouls saves her best until last in 2019
World number 25 Tessie Savelkouls of the Netherlands won her first IJF title of the year at the final event of the season as the Dutchwoman won her country’s third gold medal in Qingdao. Former world bronze medallist Iryna Kindzerska (AZE) was outworked for the full four minutes of regulation time and was caught after 25 seconds of added time from a rolling seoi-nage for a waza-ari score. World Championships bronze medallist Kayra Sayit (TUR) won her fourth Grand Prix title for Turkey with an impressive display in the women’s heavyweight category. Sayit threw one-time Grand Prix winner Tessie Savelkouls (NED) for a waza-ari score and will expect to break into the world’s top 10 with the prospect of a home Grand Prix coming up next month in Antalya. Roy Meyer celebrates gold with home crowd at Grand Prix The Hague
The Netherlands dominated the last day of the Grand Prix in The Hague. With three gold medals and eight in total on Sunday it was clear that the Dutch are still a powerhouse in judo. With five gold medals over three days and twelve medals in total the Dutch have a great showcase.
