Lukas Krpalek became Olympic Champion in 2016 in Rio. Krpalek became World Champion in 2019 +100kg and 2014 fighting U100kg and double European Champion in 2013 and 2014 U100kg. He won the European senior title in 2018 in Tel Aviv. He took bronze at the European Championships in Warsaw in 2017. He was double Junior World Champion. Krpalek was 7th at the Olympic Games in London. He captured more than 30 World Cup medals including 13 victories. Coached by Petr Lacina.

World and Olympic Champion Lukas Krpalek tested positive for Covid-19. The Czech judo star was one of the favourites for the +100kg title at the comeback of judo in the occasion of the Grand Slam in Budapest this weekend. Before his departure he was tested according to the protocols and couldn’t travel to Budapest. Read more

It was not a huge surprise that Lukas Krpalek, Teddy Riner, Tina Trstenjak and Kayla Harrison were crowned as Olympic Champions. They already dominated their categories one year ahead of the Games in August 2015. Italian Fabio Basile though shocked the judo world with as fast rising star. He was nowhere in his new category U66kg as he came from U60kg, but marched in fast on his golden path to Rio. Read more

European Judo Championships in Prague in November

The European Judo Championships in Prague that was postponed from April to June is now again postponed and will be held from 8-10- November from Sunday until Tuesday. The European Judo Championships of 2021 were already given to Lisbon and The Czech Judo Federation and organisation were determined to organise it this year. All EJU scheduled until the end of July are cancelled, like tournaments, training camps, seminars and festival. Read more

The IJF will continue its end-of-year tradition of awarding a prize money bonus to all 14 world number ones on the final IJF World Ranking List for 2019. Hisayoshi Harasawa knocks on the door for Olympic gold

Olympic silver medallist Harasawa Hisayoshi (JPN) was crowned the World Judo Masters heavyweight champion after the eagerly-awaited +100kg final could not take place because Olympic and world champion Lukas Krpalek (CZE) was ruled out due to back pain. Harasawa is seen as Japan’s leading heavyweight and the current front-runner for the Tokyo berth but April’s All Japan Openweight Championships will have a bearing on the selection for next summer.
