Mirali Sharipov from Uzbekistan was 5th at 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. With a strong Right Tai-Otoshi he booked judo successes with 3 World Cups in Tashkent in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Sharipov won the Grand Prix Tashkent in 2015 and bronze in Qingdao. He won the Grand Slam of Baku in 2016.

Mirali Sharipov grabs gold against teammate Boboyev

Mirali Sharipov (UZB) took the victory at the Grand Slam in Baku. The Asian Championships bronze medallist won the domestic bragging rights against teammate and Tashkent Grand Prix bronze medallist Giyosjon Boboyev (UZB) as he came out on top in their U73kg final. Boboyev (UZB) led by a waza-ari score after Sharipov tried to lift up his teammate but his compatriot countered with ashi-waza for the opening score. Read more

Uzbek Mirali Sharipov won the Tashkent Grand Prix for a second time as he overwhelmed Junior World Championships bronze medallist Nuno Saraiva (POR) in the -73kg final. The 21-year-old Portuguese judoka had no way out from a tate-shiho-gatame and remained pinned to the tatami for 20 seconds by Sharipov. The world number 59 beat the world number 81 inside 45 seconds to send the crowd into raptures – as he did in 2013 - while Saraiva will be content with his day’s work having won his first IJF senior medal.
