At the first day of the European Cup in Dubrovnik Germany won two gold medals. The other five gold medals were divided among five nations including host Croatia. 17-year old Tihea Topolovec captured a gold medal in the category U52kg against Nieke Nordmeyer (GER). San Salvador Pan American Open bronze medallist Jasper LEFEVERE (BEL) pictured this day in his mind last night and delivered the best case scenario as he won-66kg gold against Havana Grand Prix bronze medallist Alim GADANOV (RUS). European bronze medallist Mikhail Pulyaev (RUS) won -66kg gold in Havana as he defeated former world silver medallist Sugoi Uriarte (ESP) in the final. The in-form Russian went ahead with a yuko from osaekomi-waza as he was positive from the start and set a good tempo. Uriarte was penalised for passivity halfway through the final and a second followed shortly after. With three seconds left the Russian confirmed his victory in emphatic fashion with a seoi-otoshi yielding ippon after the intervention of the IJF refereeing commission. Read more
