French judoka Pierre Duprat participated at World and European Championships. He was European Junior Champ in 2008 and won European team. Duprat won his first World Cup in 2012 in Oberwart followed by Dusseldorf in 2013 and Grand Prix Astana in 2014. Won the European Games team title with France. In 2017 he won gold at the African Open in Casablanca. He took bronze at the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg in 2017. He took bronze at the European Cup in Sarajevo in 2018.

He is not the only one who stepped up a weight category higher, but Loic Pietri had to wait four years before he could celebrate a victory at an Olympic qualifier. At the European Open in Odivelas, close to Lisbon, Pietri won gold U90kg. Two years ago at the European Cup he had one gold in Belgrade but never at an event where Olympic qualification points are for grab. Read more

European judo season for men opens in Sofia

At the European Open this weekend in Sofia The Canadian and French team have the best papers to take the titles. The Canadians sent a team with some of the top athletes. Three Canadians are seeded first such as the competitive category U81kg with Etienne Briand who’s ranked 13th in the World. Also Antoine Valois-Fortier is listed high and will be protected, but they may see each-other in the semi finals. Read more

Some surprising names in the French selection for Rio. Some nasty decision had to be taken with just one judoka in each weight category. Hardest choices were made in the women’s divisions were in the category U52kg Priscilla Gneto was chosen over Annabelle Euranie.
