First thought when somebody mentions the U81kg category is either Avtandil Tchrikishvili or Jae-Bum Kim, but not today. Today at the Tokyo Grand Slam Japanese fans cherish their new hero Takanori Nagase who beat both of them at the last Grand Slam of season. Nagase didn't just beat current Olympic Champion or World Champion, big names such as Ivan Nifontov, Sergiu Toma also were caught into this Japanese vortex. What a day for this 21-year old youngster. Tokyo Grand Slam winner Tina Trstenjak (SLO) ruled the -63kg category on day two as she defeated Dusseldorf Grand Prix silver medallist TSEDEVSUREN Munkhzaya (MGL) in the final. TSEDEVSUREN, who stunned world silver medallist and top seed Yarden GERBI (ISR) in the second round, lost out in her second consecutive IJF Grand Prix final, as the glory went to world number three TRSTENJAK, who was the number two seed here in Georgia. Gold medal for Gevrise Emane at Grand Slam Tokyo

What a story for Gevrise Emane, taking the gold medal at such excellent field of the Grand Slam in Tokyo. This year evolved well and exploded in a fantastic apotheosis. The French judoka won the category U70kg in which she was a World Champion in 2007. After her successful career in the U63kg division where she also won the world title in 2011, she stepped up seriously this season. Only last year she won a bronze medal with the French team U70kg, but thought about the chance to get back for real. Read more

In the -73kg, ONO Shohei (JPN) and AKIMOTO Hiroyuki (JPN) proved to be the two best athletes of a very strong weight category. Favorite of this final, ONO, world champion in Rio in 2013, found in front of him a highly-motivated AKIMOTO, who after a long and complicated fight, finally scored a nice yuko with a shoulder movement, from which ONO tried to escape but with no success.
