Portugal won an Olympic Judo medal by Telma Monteiro in 2016 in Rio. In 2000 Nuno Delgado was the first. Telma Monteiro won 5 European titles and 5 World medals. The European Open in Lisbon is the biggest EJU judo event. In 2008 Lisbon was organiser of the European Senior Championships. FPJ Judo, the Portuguese Judo Federation is based in Lisbon. Coimbra is organising European Cups for cadets and juniors. Judo is important for the government for social inclusion of judo in the society. Paralympic judo is also important for FP Judo.
