Cadet European Cup silver medallist Falk Petersilka of Germany won his first world title as he narrowly defeated Cadet Pan American Cup winner Igor Morishigue (BRA) in the -81kg final. Petersilka received a shido for going out of the area and the Brazilian was penalised shortly afterwards for the same indiscretion. Morishigue was penalised for passivity and that decided the scoreless contest as the Cologne-based German fighter climbed onto the top place on the podium.

In the first semi-final Cadet European Cup silver medallist and home hope Toni Miletic (BIH) lost out to Cadet Pan American Cup winner Igor Morishigue from Brazil on shido penalties with three against the Bosnian fighter and one against the Brazilian judoka. In the second semi-final Petersilka thwarted EYOF bronze medallist Jan Reijntjens (NED) by a yuko score to move on into the final to fight for gold.

The first bronze medal was won by Sherkhon Turaboev (UZB) against Dutchman Jan Reijntjens by ippon from a harai-goshi with a minute remaining. The second bronze medal was captured by the hosts as Miletic (BIH) beat Cadet European silver medallist Goga Kevkhishvili of Georgia on shido penalties and the Georgian raised the hand of the winner in a great showing of respect.

Petersilka is the third German to take the main price in cadets. In 2011 Rebecca Bräuninger won gold and Jennifer Schwille won the title in 2013 in Miami.
