Amina Belkadi, the African Champion, proudly represents Algeria as the flagbearer at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Born in 1992, in Remchi Tlemcen, Algeria, Belkadi has become a prominent figure in judo, competing in the U63kg category. Her journey to the Olympics has been marked by a series of significant achievements and a steadfast dedication to her sport.

Belkadi's judo career began at the tender age of six, inspired by her older brother, Ismail. She joined the Dynamique Sportif Baba Hassen club in Algiers, where she honed her skills under the guidance of coach Mohamed Sedari. Over the years, she has developed a preference for techniques such as Sode-tsurikomi-goshi, O-soto-makikomi, and Sumi-gaeshi, which have become her signature moves on the mat.

Her rise in the judo world is evidenced by her impressive track record. Belkadi is a five-time gold medallist at the African Championships, having won titles consecutively from 2019 to 2024. She also secured a gold medal at the 2024 African Games, further establishing her dominance in the -63kg weight class. On the international stage, she achieved notable success, including a bronze medal at the 2024 Dushanbe Grand Slam.

Belkadi's performances at various World Tour events deliver a third place at the 2024 Grand Slam in Dushanbe and this has consistently placed in the top ranks at other major tournaments.

Outside the judo mat, Belkadi is known for her multifaceted personality. Fluent in Arabic, English, and French, she is an articulate and well-rounded individual. Her educational background and role as a sport advisor highlight her dedication to personal growth and her sport. Known affectionately as "Mina," she enjoys cooking, riding, and listening to podcasts in her leisure time.

Belkadi's personal life is deeply rooted in her family values. She draws inspiration from her father, Mohammed, who has been both a father and a friend, offering unwavering support and guidance. Her sporting idols include Soraya Haddad, a fellow Algerian judoka and Olympic medallist, whose achievements have inspired Belkadi's own aspirations.

Her pre-competition rituals include listening to the Quran and engaging in prayers, practices that help her maintain focus and control. She also relies on motivational talks with her coach to boost her confidence and mental readiness. Belkadi's sporting philosophy, "Stay focused, stay determined, and never give up," encapsulates her approach to both her sport and life.

Belkadi steps into the global spotlight at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Amina Belkadi stands as a symbol of Algerian pride. Certainly at Friday evening at the opening ceremony.
