Charles Chibana women's coach in Israel

The decorated 32-year-old Brazilian Charles Chibana joined the Israeli women's judo team led by Shani Hershko, who greeted: "Charles Chibana was a tremendous athlete with exceptional abilities.”

Former Brazilian judoka Charles Chibana was added to the team of the Israeli women's judo team led by Shani Hershko. Chibana won two Panamerican titles and the Pan Am Games in 2015 fighting U66kg. He won the Grand Slam in Tyumen in 2014 and Moscow in 2013 and various World Cup events in South America. In 2018 he became Military World Champion in Rio.

The 32-year-old Chibana, retired in 2020 at the height of the Corona, when during his career (up to 66 kg), he participated in the Olympic Games in Rio where he was eliminated in his first fight.

Chibana collected 18 World Cup medals in his career including a final at the Grand Slam in Tokyo and fought about 180 international fights at the highest level. He fought against countless athletes including two Israeli fighters Baruch Shmailov and Tal Flicker, two world class athletes who ranked 1 and 2 in the IJF World Ranking. Charles Chibana was a World Ranking leader himself in 2014 and 2015 since his fifth place at the World Championships in 2014 followed by good results in the IJF World Tour and his Pan American title in 2014.

Women's national team coach Shani Hershko said: "I am very pleased with the addition of Charles Chibana to the women's national team. Charles was added to the coaching staff after many long searches for a quality and professional coach and was selected from many high-quality candidates."

"I am very happy that we were able to conclude his joining the Paris 2024 campaign. Charles and Ido Bar will be part of the team next to me, a team that will focus on preparing the Olympic athletes for Paris 2024. Charles was a tremendous athlete with exceptional abilities, he belongs to a Brazilian Japanese family "And I have many decades of experience and I have no doubt that he will contribute much of his knowledge and heritage to the women's team. I wish Charles and the women's team joint success."
