At day three of the Grand Slam in Budapest, some of the top players for the Hungarian home team will be attending. Kristzian Toth, Miklos Cirjenics and Richard Sipocz are some of those top names in the men’s team for the organising country. So far eight nations have won a gold medal, Russia still leads by two gold medals in the men’s lightweight categories. Oon Yeoh of JudoCrazy describes the potential medallists and those who should have been in Budapest.

Men’s -90kg

There are four excellent fighters in this category: Sherazadishvili (ESP), Toth (HUN), Van 't End (NED) and Majdov (SRB). Any one of these four could win the gold. Tchrikishvili (GEO) is a dark horse, but we all know his skills. We wonder what Igonikov can do at his return in Budapest.

Women’s -78kg

Notably missing are Hamada (JPN), Malonga (FRA), Aguiar (BRA) and Powell (GBR). World No. 3 Posvite is competing. She could very well end up meeting her teammate Tcheumeo in the final. Dark horse is Loriana Kuka in the talented tea of Kosovo..

Men’s -100kg

Some big names are missing, such as Cho (KOR), Korrel (NED), Liparteliani (GEO) and Wolf (JPN). But there are still exciting matches to be seen, involving the likes of (ISR), Fonseca (POR) and Elnahas (CAN). Kukolj (SRB), fighting at -100kg could be interesting. Two dark horses are Nikiforov (BEL) and Iddir (FRA).

Women’s +78kg

Big names who are missing here are Ortiz (CUB), Sone (JPN) and Asahina (JPN). The trio of Altheman (BRA), Ceric (BIH) and Sayit (TUR) will be fighting out for the top prize.

Men’s +100kg

Some really big names are not here. Krpalek (CZE), Harasawa (JPN), Tushishvili (GEO), Grol (NED) and Riner (FRA) are all missing. It looks like Tasoev (RUS), Sasson (ISR) and Silva (BRA) will have to battle it out. Moura, the other Brazilian, is also one to look out for.
