European Champion Katrin Beinroth passes away (38)
Again another relatively young judoka passed away. 38-year old former European Champion Katrin Beinroth died at 23 June. The heavyweight passed away in her sleep. She was married since August 2013 and used the name Katrin Simper.
Beinroth won three medals at European Championships. She took the title in Düsseldorf in 2003 and took bronze at the Europeans in 2004 in Bucharest ad 2005 in Rotterdam. She took a fifth place at the World Championships in Levallois in 2008. She competed at three World Championships but couldn’t qualify for the Olympic Games in 2004 where Sandra Koeppen was the German participant in Athens and Beijing.
She fought many times with heavyweights such as Tea Donguzashvili, Simone Callendar, Francoise Harteveld, Carola Uilenhoed and Elena Ivaschenko, who also passed away at a young age.
Beinroth captured 15 medals in World Cups but never a gold medal. Among her highlights was the final of the Tournoi de Paris in 2006 where she took bronze in 2004. She was four time German champion between 2000-2005 and won international tournaments such as the German Open, Belgian, Swiss and Swedish Open Championships.
