Dzmitry Shershan shines for his country in Abu Dhabi

Dzmitry Shershan is prpfiling him as frontrunner for Belarussian judo. In the final U66kg of the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi The fighter opposed Tarlan Karimov (AZE). Only 45 seconds were needed for Dzmitry Shershan to secure the victory with an immobilisation for ippon.
In the first bronze medal fight between Sebastian Seidl (GER) and Alim Gadanov RUS), the Russian was rapidly penalized with a first shido after 16 seconds. Seidl scored the first yuko of the bout with a counter-attack. A few penalties later, he was still leading with this yuko, enough to win the bronze medal.
The second bronze medal fight opposed Patrick Gagne (CAN) and Adrian Gomboc (SLO). After two minutes, Gagne was penalized with a first shido, which was largely compensated by the superb uchimata for waza-ari scored by the Canadian before the last minute. Even if he was penalized two more times for passivity for false attacks, GAGNE won the bronze.

Georgian Vazha Margvelashvili won his first Grand Slam gold medal to guide Georgia to top spot in the medal table. World number four and Tbilisi Grand Prix winner Margvelashvili defeated world silver medallist Yerlan Serikzhanov (KAZ) with a late show in golden score. The Georgian threw his Kazakh opponent after 13 seconds of additional time with a seoi-otoshi to win gold in Abu Dhabi. Read more
The first matches at the European Judo Championships in Judo delivered some good surprises in the men’s category U60kg. Amiran Papinashvili was one of the victims of the quarter final when he lost his match against Walide Khyar of France. Papinashvili will get a place in the repechage, but Khyar first opponents Carmine Di Loreto and Ashley McKenzie won’t get that chance and were sent home. Read more
Russia have perhaps the best European athletes U66kg. With Mikhail Pulyaev and Kamal Khan-Magomedov they should have two chances. But Pulyaev won’t compete as he is named in the Meldonium scandal and even Kamal Khan-Magomedov doesn't compete. No problem for Russia to launch Olympic champion Arsen Galstyan for this title event as well as Anzaur Ardanov. Read more
This weekend The Czech Republic is ready to welcome all male athletes for the last stop of the European Opens during the qualifying period for Rio 2016. In Prague over 300 competitors amongst 58 nations will be on show at Arena Sparta in Prague. Among the athletes 2014 World Champion Lukas Krpalek fighting U100kg. Krpalek can defend his title of 2014 and continue his streak, also in 2012 Lukas won the Czech Open. Read more
Sofia winners Ramadan Darwish (EGY) and Dzmitry Shershan (BLR) have both improved their positions in the latest IJF World Ranking. Both Darwish as Shershan are now ranked seventh. For Darwish one position better, Shershan was tenth last week and his best ever position was fourth in August 2015. Read more
