European battle for U73kg European title
20 Jun 2019 10:00

The category that is dominated by the Japanese and Korean fighters Ono, Hashimoto, and An Chang-Rim, is actually quite a European class. With top athletes such as Rustam Orujov, Hidayet Heydarov from Azerbaijan, Lasha Shavdatuashvili (GEO), Tommy Macias (SWE), Akil Gjakova (KOS), Tohar Butbul (ISR) this class is highly interesting who will take the honours.
Not just these top athletes but there are many guys who can hurt the top. It depends on the day who comes up. We know that the Russians Mogushkov and Iartcev can take medals, but this class heavy that anyone can do it.
Fabio Basile not seeded
Not among the seeded players is Fabio Basile, perhaps the biggest outsider for his first European title. He is on his way back, looks good, trains well, is inspired by the good Italian performances in general and on the other hand criticized for his slow comeback. The European Games in Minsk will give us an answer.
Many outsiders
Any judo fan from any country will sum up a few other athletes to count on: Hungary's flagbearer Miki Ungvari, Guillaume Chaine, Vadzym Shoka, Anthony Zingg, Antonio Esposito, Nils Stump, Bilal Ciloglu and former European Champion Ferdinand Karapetian of Armenia.
