World champion An Chang-Rim unbeatable in Antalya

World champion An Changrim of Korea reigned in Antalya as he beat Olympic silver medallist Rustam Orujov (AZE) in a pulsating U73kg final. An, who was wearing his red backpatch and competing for only the second time since winning his first world title, pushed the pace in golden score against his long-time rival to the point where it was one-way traffic in golden score.
Orujov weathered a string of attacks until he was caught with a neat piece of ashi-waza for a waza-ari score.
In the first semi-final AN beat Tbilisi Grand Prix winner Guillaume Chaine (FRA) with a tai-otoshi with 14 seconds left on the clock having led by a waza-ari from a harai-goshi. In the second semi-final Orujov defeated world number 107 Lechi Ediev (RUS) in golden score by ippon from a harai-makikomi.
The first bronze medal was won by world number 60 Georgios Azoidis (GRE) who secured his first IJF medal by scraping past Ediev by a waza-ari score.
The second bronze medal went to Chaine who defeated former Zagreb Grand Prix winner Dmytro Kanivets (UKR) after the Ukrainian was disqualified for picking up his third shido.

World number 43 Guillaume Chaine of France was a worthy but unexpected winner of the -73kg title in Tbilisi as he edged past former Havana Grand Prix silver medallist Magdiel Estrada (CUB). Chaine won his first IJF World Judo Tour gold medal by scoring an o-uchi-gari after 29 seconds for a waza-ari and Estrada failed to impose himself in his first IJF final. Read more

At the European Open this weekend in Sofia The Canadian and French team have the best papers to take the titles. The Canadians sent a team with some of the top athletes. Three Canadians are seeded first such as the competitive category U81kg with Etienne Briand who’s ranked 13th in the World. Also Antoine Valois-Fortier is listed high and will be protected, but they may see each-other in the semi finals. Read more
Russian fox Denis Iartcev ruled the U73kg category in Dusseldorf as he defeated Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist and London 2012 Olympic champion Lasha Shavdatuashvili of Georgia in the final. Former World Judo Masters winner Iartcev, who was trying to avenge a Rio 2016 repechage defeat to the Georgian, went ahead with a waza-ari from a nice piece of ashi-waza and concluded a fine outing by ippon from a ko-soto-gake.
